It is our great pleasure to invite you to another of the traditional Rosa Parks Memorial Lectures, this time focusing on the European Convention on Human Rights and European Union.
Rosa Parks was an activist who was actively working towards the equality and fighting against the "separate but equal policy". She was on her way home using the bus where she had taken free seat in the part destined to black people. Not long after she sat down, a white man asked her to releave her seat in order to let him sit. Regarding the temporary law, his request was absolutely valid and Rosa was obliged to follow it. Nevertheless she refused to do so and not even the driver managed to persuade her. Therefore she was arrested and spent a night on police station. As an activist she refused to acquiesce with it and pushed her case through the judicial system. Her case was the trigger of the events that led to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the ban of the discriminating policy and thus began her way into history.
We are looking forward to seeing you in room 303.
